“Meizanbori” – A special place in the heart of Kagoshima

Meizabori is located in midtown Kagoshima next to ‘Minatoodorikoen’ or Central Park near the Sakurajima Ferry port.

Meizanbori is one of the few authentic post-war towns largely unchanged since the late 40’s early 50’s. The atmosphere is early Showa (70 years ago) yet the vibe is a great mix of old and new shops. At night you can try one of the many izakayas in the narrow alleyways serving yakitori and traditional Kagoshima cuisine taken from the many islands which make up Kagoshima Prefecture.

During the day, you can get a great cup of coffee at Hay Coffee Stand or any one of the newer trendy cafes such as Indigo Cafe or Kiki’s! Both Kiki and Indigo Cafe offer vegan / vegetarian-friendly menus and is a must for westerners looking for vegan Japanese cuisine.

The following video gives you a sneak peak at what you can expect from this wonderful place where old meets new!
